so i've followed all of the steps on this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297185 up to step number three (under the resolution) and i do have a duel/multiple boot computer but how do i know which installation to choose?

The one that is giving you the error. Do both if you are uncertain. Dont forget that there is a patch for this, too, after you fix the error, so it doesn't happen again. It's vendor specific, though, so get it from the computer manufacturer.
